White-winged Crossbill
Red CrossbillNovember 15:  At Hammonasset a small flock of Red Crossbills has been sharing the pines with the more numerous White-winged Crossbills. The Red Crossbills include both males and females, and the White-wingeds include adult males and females, as well as young males, young females, and juveniles with no color at all. Note how the dark orange-red of the adult male Red Crossbill (left) is a quite different color than the male White-winged (right) which is a much pinker shade.
