Nanday Parakeet now ABA “countable.”

Nanday (Black-hooded) ParakeetDecember 7:  As of changes made in November, 2012, Nanday Parakeet is now an ABA “countable” species. However, controversy remains over in which Florida counties the species is actually “established” and therefore “countable.” Ebird reports suggest that the species is observed regularly in a more extensive area than is reflected by the overly conservative presently “countable” area decreed by the ABA checklist committee and the Florida Ornithological Society records committee. One might reasonably expect that this will be updated in due course to bring the bureaucracy into line with the actual observations in the field.
