Winter ducks are beginning to show up in Connecticut. This afternoon at Hammonasset, two first-year male Buffleheads.  Also a flock of ten Snow Buntings in the field by the nature center, a spot where this species may be reliably seen every year at about this time, and a nice side by side study of the difference in appearance between first-year female and nonbreeding male.
