May 22: The marshland on the Madison/Guilford town line is always a productive spot for a variety of species, and an especially good place to study the secretive Saltmarsh Sparrow. They mostly hide in the deep grass, although they show themselves when they occasionally fly a short distance, always close to the ground. A number were present this morning, including one that obligingly teed up quite close to the car. I could however not find any Seaside Sparrows today, although they have been at this spot in prior years.
