Wood Sandpiper – Jamestown, RI

Wood SandpiperOctober 16:  This afternoon I drove up to Jamestown, RI, situated in the middle of Narragansett Bay, to look for the Wood Sandpiper first discovered at Marsh Meadows Wildlife Preserve on October 13 by Carlos Pedro. This is a Eurasian species, and is only accidental in North America.  Although it is occasionally seen on some of the western Alaskan Islands, this occurrence is only the seventh record for the lower forty-eight states –  a rare bird indeed.
