Red-crested Cardinal

ABA 2

(Paroaria coronata)

This colorful species is seen as an escapee in California and Florida. It is native to Brazil,  but was introduced into Hawaii around 1930, where it now thrives. It belongs to the tanager family (Thraupidae), and not to the same family as the familiar Northern Cardinal (Cardinalidae).
