House Finch

ABA 1

(Haemorhous mexicanus - formerly Carpodacus mexicanus)

One of our most common and widespread birds, and a familiar visitor to most backyard feeders. Not to be confused with the similar but more vividly-colored, and less common, Purple Finch, in which the red color is additionally infused in the wings and wing bars. House Finch can occasionally show a more yellow or orange color in place of the red, a factor which is related to diet.
