Whiskered Tern

ABA 5

(Chlidonias hybridus)

Whiskered Tern is a Eurasian species not normally seen in the new world. On September 12, 2014 one was discovered at Cape May, NJ. This is only the third documented occurrence of this species in the Americas, all three at Cape May. This molting bird has a stout, dull red bill, red legs, darkish mantle, and unique dark blotchy underparts.
