As of August, 2013, there are several taxonomic changes affecting ABA species. There has been one split: Sage Sparrow (Artemisiospiza belli) is now two separate species – Sagebrush Sparrow (Artemisiospiza nevadensis), and Bell’s Sparrow, which retains the original Latin name Artemisiospiza belli. Fortunately, the rumor of a possible impending unsplitting of the three Rosy-Finch species back into a single species did not come to pass.
Several scientific name changes occurred:
Surfbird (from Aphriza virgata to Calidris virgata)
Buff-breasted Sandpiper (from Tryngites subruficollis to Calidris subruficollis)
Ruff (from Philomachus pugnax to Calidris pugnax)
Flammulated Owl (from Otus flammeolus to Psiloscops flammeolus)
