Atlantic Puffin, breeder of rocky islands off Maine and the Canadian maritime provinces, is known for its gaudy harlequin appearance. In the fall its white face becomes gray and it leaves its nesting grounds for the open sea where it remains pelagic until the following year’s breeding season.
