Great Blue-Heron

ABA 1

(Ardea herodias)

The stately and elegant Great Blue-Heron is North America’s largest heron, as well as the most widespread. It often poses motionless out in the open where it is quite easy to observe.  In addition to the familiar dark morph, there also exists a white morph, limited to south Florida, which is also known as Great White Heron, although it is not a separate species.  Intermediate morphs are known as Würdemann’s Heron.
