Just spotted a tri-Color blackbird in my yard this morning. I live in Northern Ontario, Canada..
The blackbirds have just returned so I’m thinking he is in transit. Have pics and have never seen this bird here in last 30 years.

The endangered Tri-colored Blackbird is found in California, and rarely in Oregon and Washington. It is unknown east of these three states. The similar Red-winged Blackbird on the other hand is North America’s most abundant songbird and is commonly seen virtually everywhere. You are welcome to send your photos for positive ID, but almost certainly what you have seen is a Red-winged Blackbird. You’d make history if it were truly a Tricolored.

I spotted a bird this morning I had never seen before. There is an abundance of red winged blackbirds here but this bird was different. It looked a lot like a tri coloured blackbird, it was on the ground feeding under an oak tree. I live in southern Manitoba in a marshy area. I know those birds aren’t supposed to be this far east but could it be possible?

Interesting that on 4/21 someone from northern Ontario also thought they had seen a Tricolored Blackbird (see my 4/21 reply). Nothing is ever impossible, but it sure is unlikely. What specific field marks about the bird you saw made you certain it was not a Red-winged Blackbird?

I just saw one Sunday May 10, 2020 in Nova Scotia.
I have pictures and it is definitely not a Red Winged Black Bird….
Please contact me so I can send you the pictures and verify.
