Gyrfalcon

ABA 2

(Falco rusticolus)

The largest of the North American falcons, Gyrfalcon is a breeder of Alaska and the Canadian far north, nests on rocky cliffs on the tundra, and is rarely seen in the lower forty-eight states. One has to be lucky to get anything other than a distant view. This bird is the quintessential species of the ancient sport of falconry.
