Lesser Goldfinch


(Spinus psaltria - formerly Carduelis psaltria)

Lesser Goldfinch, the smallest of the three North American Goldfinches, is found from Texas westward. Most males of the species have a black cap, a greenish back, and bright yellow underparts. The Texas race differs with the black extending to the complete crown, cheeks, nape, and back.
