The Indian Peafowl is better known as “Peacock.” The male has the spectacular colorful tail which is often spread – a familiar sight to most people as the corporate loco of one of our television networks. Males give a very loud raucous cry. Both sexes sport a unique head plume. The species is not native to North America, but is often seen in zoos or parks, and occasionally as an escapee. As of 2018 it is a “countable” species as it is established in Hawaii.
