As of August, 2013, the species formerly called Sage Sparrow (Artemisiospiza belli) is now split into two separate species. These are Sagebrush Sparrow (Artemisiospiza nevadensis), and Bell’s Sparrow, the latter of which retains the old scientific name Artemisiospiza belli. Both are western species found in dry sagebrush desert habitats, but they occupy different ranges.
