Northern Saw-whet Owl is a small nocturnal owl seen mostly during fall migration. It favors stands of cedar where it roosts quietly during the day often on a horizontal branch just above eye-level. It is exceptionally tame, and will allow even very close approach without budging. When netted for banding it will perch on an arm or hand for minutes or more without making any attempt to fly away.
