With a range similar to Lapland Longspur, Snow Bunting is another breeder of the far north tundra and is seen in the lower 48 states only during the cold weather months when it lacks its distinctive black and white breeding plumage. In winter it is usually seen in small flocks, in a barren field or near the grassy edge of a beach, often with Horned Larks and Lapland Longspurs.

I am looking at a big drift in my back yard right now, the Buntings come every day to feed some in smaller groups but today it was a bigger group I would estimate close to 100. It is very impressive to see them all fly and come back all t the same time. I live in a farm field and we feed other birds it’s the second year we have them come to our house, they are just adorable! Hope they will come back next year also! I am in Canada near the Ontario Border.
