Ridgway’s Rail

(Rallus obsoletus)

In July, 2014 Clapper Rail was split into three separate species, one of which is Ridgway’s Rail, which itself has four subspecies.  The particular subspecies on this page is the federally and California state listed endangered light-footed Ridgway’s Rail (Rallus obsoletus levipes) which is only found in small numbers along the California coast from Santa Barbara County to the Mexican border.
