Greater Pewee

(Contopus pertinax)

Greater Pewee is a high-elevation large flycatcher with a US range generally limited to the sky islands of southeast Arizona. It has an easy to recognize “Jose Maria” song, but is quite hard to find when not singing. It hawks insects from a high promontory, often a tall dead snag.
