Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch

ABA 1

(Leucosticte tephrocotis)

Note the stark contrast between this mainland “interior” race, and the Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch Bering Sea race which is larger, darker, and has a black throat, a dark bill, and a gray face. The two races are so different that they likely should be, and will become, separate species. There is also a Pacific coastal “Hepburn’s” race with the same smaller size of the interior race, but with the all-gray face.
