This small subspecies of the familiar Canada Goose, because of its size similarity, is sometimes confused with Cackling Goose, which among other subtle differences, has a notably stubbier bill. The individual pictured here was reported some half dozen times on Ebird as a Cackling Goose and was photographed as such, but the experts to whom the photos were referred for opinions were unanimous in their conclusion that this in fact is the small parvipes subspecies of Canada Goose, and not a Cackling Goose after all.
